People ask me how I manage to do so many things and enjoy them. One of the keys is to enjoy what you do and the other is to improve your organization skills. I’d like to share with you one of the strategies I use to organize myself better. I also use it, incidentally, to be fit and relaxed.

It is ideal for weekends and holidays.

Recipe:

Type: Improve Performance and Personal Organization

Difficulty: Easy

Preparation time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

A natural space

I normally use the beach because I live 5 minutes away, but any other natural space may serve.

Instructions:

1. Connect to a problem you want to solve, a workshop, a conference or an event you have to prepare, or even a «difficult» conversation you need to have with someone.

2. Once you’ve connected with whatever you want to approach, you can go for a walk along the beach, the countryside, the park or any other natural area for at least 30 minutes.

During your walk, try to connect with all the good feelings that come to you, fresh air on your cheeks, the light, the colours, the temperature, the scenery, your body, the environment… and focus your attention in the here and now, so as to make the most of your experience.

In my case, I imagine that the sound of the waves helps me to empty my mind of fears, insecurities and thoughts that no longer serve me.

3. When you finish your walk, bring the matter back to your mind and write down everything you can think of for about 30 minutes; when time passes, stop writing and continue doing other things.

Why 30 minutes? Because according to Parkinson’s Law: «work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion», if you get used to allocating time to each task, you are taking the good habit to teach your brain to work more effectively.

Why walking? As Albert Einstein said. «We can not solve problems with the same thinking we used when we created them» The walk serves us to change the mindset that we had when we addressed the issue or problem for the first time, it also helps us to enter the necessary state of peace and relaxation to find creative solutions.

Finally, if we do it regularly, it helps us to keep fit. What else?

Try it and share, if you wish, all the variations and ingredients you can think of.

Over time the results will surprise you. What are you waiting for?
